GABE COLEMAN, THE VIDEOGRAPHER
How I Do Videography
Like within anything else, I probably couldn't pass off videography as a hobby if I never made videos outside of work.
Shooting videos was the choice sleepover activity all throughout grade school for my friends and me, and I guess that mystical feeling of having a camera in-hand never quite wore off. In a strange way, all of that weekend time-wasting ended up being training for a lot of different projects, from school assignments to favors for friends.
What follows is a mix of recent and not-so-recent school-related video projects and their antitheses.
Hallo, Baja! Opening Scene
I got lucky and shot my short film/final project for German 202 on the first sunny day of Winter Term in Eugene. Here's the opening scene.
Push-Ups with Cyrus
Won the "Best Technical Project" award at the end of JCOM 103. The prize: a Liquid Death energy drink. Priceless.
Swing Dance Club 1
When my friend started a swing dance club at the UO, I made up for my poor dancing skills with some promotional content to get the word out about the new club.
Swing Dance Club 2
I made a couple for her. My dancing was that bad.
Snapping of a Tightened Bow
My sophomore English teacher was flexible about what media we chose for our final book report. It was an easy decision for me.
There's a Me in my Bathtub
Vivid rendition of pre-teen imagination and boredom.
Ich muss aufraümen!
Admittedly not so old, but I was just a German 102 student at the time, and I've learned a lot since then (enough to wince at all my grammar mistakes in this short video project about doing dorm chores)!
Welcome to the Writer's Studio
For my last two years of high-school, I served as a volunteer writing tutor at the Bolles Upper School Writer's Studio, although I'm happy to have helped its exposure with videography, too.
"Just Verizon" One Duck Award Competition Campaign
In association with the One Club for Creativity's Young Ones competition, the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication collected student-crafted advertising campaigns in response to fictional prompts. With only two weeks to work, this was my entry for the prompt in search of a down-to-earth, ultra-candid Verizon campaign that appeals to young, skeptical consumers.
